Terms
These terms cover this website. Assize Data Ltd’s website terms cover its corporate site, and anything either of them says about personal data gives way to the privacy notice.
Who publishes this site
Assize News is a trading name of Assize Data Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17510115. Registered office: c/o IWN Accountancy, The Echo Building, 18 Albert Road, Bournemouth, BH1 1BZ.
The Assize is an independent publication. It is not a court, tribunal or government body, and it is not part of or endorsed by one. It is not a regulator and has no regulatory function.
This is not advice
Nothing here is legal advice and nothing here is a recommendation of any practitioner, firm or regulator. Whether a particular person may lawfully do a particular thing for you is a question about their current authorisation, and the answer is on their regulator’s register, which every page here links to. Where this site and a regulator disagree, the regulator is right and this site wants to be told: corrections.
Accuracy, and the limits of it
Every figure is published with the sentence it was read from and a link to the document, and editorial standards says what is done to keep it right. What cannot be promised is currency: a register is a snapshot taken on the date recorded at methodology, and a person’s authorisation can change the day after. Any decision that turns on somebody’s current status should be made against the regulator’s own register on the day.
What you may do with what is here
Three different things are on this site and they do not carry the same permissions. Sources and licences gives the position for each source; this is the short version.
- Open Government Licence material — the statute book and Hansard material at in law, and the certificated enforcement agent register — is licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 by its publisher, and you may re-use it on those terms. The licence does not cover personal data.
- This site’s own writing, tables and compilations — the articles, the comparisons, the figures compiled from the regulators’ reports — may be quoted and reported with attribution to The Assize and a link to the page. Reproducing a page or a dataset wholesale, or using it to build a competing directory, is not covered by that and needs permission: enquiries@assizedata.co.uk.
- Other people’s material — the registers that are not openly licensed, and the documents quoted from — belongs to the bodies that published it. Quotations here are short extracts for the purpose of reporting and criticism, each attributed and linked. Nothing gives a reader any right in that material, and the registers themselves are not offered for download: what is and is not downloadable says which is which and why.
Links out
This site links heavily to regulators, legislation.gov.uk, Hansard, the courts and WhatDoTheyKnow, because a figure without its source is not worth publishing. Those sites are not ours, their content is not ours, and a link is not an endorsement.
Availability and liability
The site is published as it is and may be changed, moved or withdrawn. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, Assize Data Ltd is not liable for loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this site, and if you use it for business purposes it is not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or anticipated savings, or for indirect or consequential loss.
Misuse
Do not attack the site, attempt unauthorised access to it or to the systems behind it, or introduce malicious software. Automated collection of the whole site in order to rebuild the registers it declines to republish is not a use these terms permit. To report a security issue, email security@assizedata.co.uk.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. A consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland may also bring proceedings there.
